Wilderness Retreat

‘Snow, snow, and more snow. Then some wind and sun, the moon and clear skies. Warm fire, good books, lots of table tennis, lots of good food, great conversation … who could ask for a better way to finish one year and start another?’
John and Jacqueline

By converting one of my barns into a practical and cosy cottage, I have created an idyllic wilderness retreat within my property. With stunning views of open moors and hills, it is a perfect place to get away from the stress and noise of daily life. There is no phone – just the sound of the birds and plenty of space. You can step out the door and walk into the hills where you are likely to spot roe deer, hares, grouse and several birds of prey. You can even lie in bed and observe the stars through the skylight windows and, if you time your visit right, you will see the magical sight of the northern lights.

Open plan with a wood-burning stove, the cottage is ideal for a couple looking for solitude and adventure.  The cottage is self-catering and is available to book all year round – bookings are made through the Ecosse Unique website. Due to the snow between January and April there is often limited access to the cottage by vehicle, so it is particularly suitable to guests who enjoy winter walking and biking, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing. I am on hand to help but you do need to arrive with suitable winter gear and be prepared to carry your supplies in a pack on your back.

“Moonlight, Milky Way, Shooting Stars – all remembered from previous visits. Loathe to leave.”
Alison Edgar, Nairn

“We came here to see Scottish wildlife and ended up seeing more than we ever dreamed of. The cottage is lovely and the setting is magical!’
Helena and Kevin, Sweden
